Cricket Australia has rejected a Sri Lanka Cricket proposal to host Tests before the white-ball matches in Sri Lanka.
The countries are to be involved in a 35-day 10-match series, including three T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests, in that order, starting June 7.
Cricket Australia’s refusal has put SLC in a tight corner owing to the shortage of fuel and power.
SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva told Cricbuzz “We will be taking a call in the next few days on how to hold the white ball games,” confirming CA’s rejection of its proposal to hold the Test upfront so that it could be in a position to circumvent the fuel crisis.
The Australian board has not responded to a query but some stakeholders of the boards have confirmed this move.
All concerned have also confirmed that the tour, from June 7 to July 12 will go ahead and the Tests will be played at the back end of the window, as per the original plan.
Australia is expected to reach Lanka in two weeks’ time. It will be Australia’s first Test tour of Sri Lanka in six years.
The Aussies had last toured the island in 2016.
