Bangladesh batters dominated the Sri Lankan bowlers on Day 3 of the first Test in Chattogram today.
Resuming the day on 76/0 in reply to Sri Lanka’s first innings score of 397, Bangladesh reached 318/3 at close of play, still trailing by 79 runs.
The day belonged to opener Tamim Iqbal, who hit 133 off 217 before retiring hurt.
He was involved in a 162-run stand for the first wicket with Mahmudul Hasan Joy- the first century opening stand for Bangladesh in five years.
Kasun Rajitha, who took the field as a concussion sub, claimed two quick wickets, but Bangladesh once again found another solid partnership of 98 runs between Litton Das 54* and Mushfiqur Rahim 53*.
Bangladesh lost three wickets in quick succession in the session but the Tigers consolidated soon.
Rajitha struck in his very first over when he removed Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Later, Rajitha went through the defenses of Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque with an angling in delivery.
