The first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh saw batters from both sides make considerable gains in the latest ICC Test Player Rankings.
The first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka that ended in a stalemate saw both sides score heavily in the three innings. The game saw three hundreds and six fifties scored, which reflected in the latest ICC Player Rankings.
On Sri Lanka’s side, Dimuth Karunaratne’s fifty in the second ensured he stays on as the sixth-ranked batter in the world.
Angelo Mathews’ marathon innings saw him fall agonisingly short of a well-deserved double hundred. He took a five-spot leap to No.21 after scoring a sensational 199. The innings also helped him break into the top 50 all-rounders, climbing six spots to No.49.
Though there were no changes in the top 10 across departments, there was significant movement outside of it. Liton Das, who scored a brilliant 88 in the first innings, jumped three spots to No.17 in the rankings for batters.
His teammate Mushfiqur Rahim had a Test match to remember. He became the first Bangladesh batter to score 5000 runs in Test cricket and made the occasion more memorable by capping it off with a century. He gained four places in the batters’ rankings, climbing to No.25.

The other centurion from Bangladesh’s first innings, Tamim Iqbal, is not too far behind Rahim and climbed six spots to No.27.
It was hard work for the bowlers in Chattogram but there were a few players that made gains in the bowlers’ rankings. Nayeem Hasan recorded his best Test figures in the first innings (6/105) and climbed nine spots to No.53. Kasun Rajitha’s four-wicket haul saw him make a massive 14-spot jump to No.61.
