Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health says attention has been drawn towards a specialized vaccination programme targeting Sri Lankans who are planning to take up employment overseas.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Director of the Health Promotion Bureau Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa said a decision was taken yesterday to administer the Pfizer vaccine doses to those leaving for overseas employment.
Dr. Batuwanthudawa said he believes the central storages are equipped with adequate Pfizer vaccine stocks to carry out the programme.
He said they have been planning on vaccinating around 25,000 people who are hoping to leave for overseas employment in the near future.
Dr. Batuwanthudawa noted that they will be vaccinated as a priority group.
He said since the majority of the nations are expecting those arriving in their countries to be vaccinated through either Pfizer, Moderna or Astrazeneca vaccine doses, the government has decided to administer the Pfizer vaccine to persons planning on leaving the country for employment.
