COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Police say special security arrangements will be made during the Vesak holiday period.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa said they have been notified that several Vesak zones and various religious and cultural events have been organized to coincide with Vesak Poya.

Accordingly, Police have decided to deploy additional officers to ensure the security of devotees who will be visiting Vesak zones in major cities.

SSP Nihal Thalduwa said a large Police presence can be expected in Colombo during the next few days as well.

He noted additional officers will be deployed to direct traffic and to make spot checks.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa added that the Police headquarters has issued directives to deploy intelligence officers and also Police officers in civil throughout the Vesak holiday period.

Police have also requested the general public to remain vigilant when in crowded places.
