The Sri Lanka Police has launched a special security operation across the island in view of the upcoming festive season.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa speaking to media said, Police presence has been beefed up across the island and in main towns.
SSP Thalduwa said churches will be given additional security during Christmas and New Year services.
He added churches have been informed to place individuals of committees at church entrances to identify unknown individuals.
Policemen in civil attire and intelligence officers will also be deployed for security purposes.
In addition, Policemen from other provinces have also been brought in for the security plan in the Western Province.
Road blocks have also been set up to control motor traffic violations.
Special attention will be directed to nab drunk drivers during the festive season.
