COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has requested the general public to remain vigilant of the frequent earth tremors reported in the country.
Several minor tremors were reported across the country in the past few weeks.
Speaking during a media briefing, Senior Seismologist Nilmini Taldena said the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has been conducting extensive studies pertaining to recent tremors.
She added although yesterday’s 3.7 magnitude tremor off the coast of Beruwela did not pose a threat, the public must remain vigilant.
Nilmini Taldena said only quakes with a magnitude of 6.5 or 7 on the Richter scale pose a potential tsunami threat.
She said although there is no necessity to panic, the public should heed to the advice given by experts.
