The Disability Organisations Joint Front has requested the government to issue a circular in relation to summoning public and private sector employees with special needs, including the visually impaired to work.
Speaking during a media briefing in Kandy today, the Assistant Secretary of the Front Prasanna Wickramasinghe said individuals with special needs, including the visually impaired, are now at high risk due to the COVID pandemic.
Wickramasinghe requested for a circular similar to the circular issued for expectant women at state and private establishments be issued for employees with special needs, including the visually impaired.
He said the present administration has forgotten about employees with special needs. Wickramasinghe said these employees travel using public transport.
Wickramasinghe said the health authorities and the government administration have failed to include state and private sector employees with special needs into any circulars issued.
The Assistant Secretary of the Front called for the release of special needs individuals from the mandatory three-day service and to facilitate a work from home programme for them.
He made a request from the government to include special needs individuals within common circulars issued.
