The Colombo Commercial Fertiliser Ltd. has introduced a special mixed fertiliser for tea and vegetables under the programme of providing fertiliser for farming purposes implemented by the government.
The event in this regard was held today (03) at the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Agriculture Ministry issuing a statement said despite providing urea and MOP fertiliser for paddy and maize crops, farmers levelled various accusations against the government for failing to provide fertiliser for tea, vegetables and potato cultivations.
Therefore, the Minister took steps to hand over the preparation of a special mixed fertiliser for tea and vegetables to the Colombo Commercial Fertiliser and the preparation of a special mixed fertiliser for potatoes to the Ceylon Fertiliser Company Ltd.
A bundle of 50kg of the tea and vegetable fertiliser will be available for farmers at Rs.3,000.
The Colombo Commercial Fertiliser has produced 200MT of the fertiliser and is aiming to produce 6,000MT.

He said as the government took steps to provide chemical fertiliser once again from the last yala season, farmers returned to fields.
