Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera today (27) instructed the Ceylon Fertiliser Company Ltd. and the Colombo Commercial Fertiliser Ltd. to produce two types of special fertiliser for potato cultivation and tea plantations within a week.
Accordingly, the production of special fertiliser for potato and vegetable cultivation was assigned to the Ceylon Fertiliser Company, and production of special fertiliser for tea cultivation was assigned to Commercial Fertiliser Ltd.
The Minister instructed the Ministry Secretary Gunadasa Samarasinghe to grant approval for the production of the two types of fertiliser.
The two chairmen stated that the companies are in possession of stocks of urea, MOP and other ingredients required for the production of the fertiliser.
The Minister expressed his views during an observational tour of the warehouse premises of the state-owned Ceylon Fertiliser Company and the Commercial Fertiliser Ltd. in Wattala this morning (27).
Meanwhile, the Agriculture Ministry stated that the distribution of urea is currently underway while 80% of the fertiliser required for agriculture purposes have already been distributed.
