COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Special dengue control programs will be launched within and in the vicinity of schools in the Western Province.
Director of Education of the Western Province Srilal Nonis said a circular in this regard with directives to principals will be issued today.
Accordingly, a number of dengue control programs will be initiated in the Western Province.
Meanwhile, Pediatrician Dr. Deepal Perera says at present, a large number of children are being admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children with dengue.
He also said it is advisable that children suffering from cough and cold remain indoors and rest.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health has identified 15 districts as dengue high-risk zones.
Authorities have decided to take steps immediately to control the spread of the disease by destroying mosquito breeding grounds.
Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella noted that there has been a significant increase in the number of dengue cases in the Gampaha district, and therefore they have decided to deploy a special team to take immediate measures to control the situation.
Health Minister Rambukwella added that an expert committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of the Director-General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena to take steps to control the spread of dengue across the island.
