COLOMBO (NewsRadio); A special two-day Dengue Control Programme will be conducted today and on tomorrow.

The National Dengue Control Unit said the decision to conduct a two-day programme was taken following a spike in cases in the past month.

The Ministry of Heath said between 200 and 300 persons are being hospitalized daily at present.

According to the National Dengue Control Unit, 75,765 dengue cases have been reported this year which is well over a two-fold increase from last year.

The Health Ministry although health officials will obtain the support of Police and Military personnel during dengue prevention programmes, the public can play a bigger role and minimise the spread of dengue mosquitoes.

The Ministry said it is also the responsibility of the people to destroy dengue breeding grounds and keep monitoring water logged areas in the vicinity of their respective residences.
