Parliamentarian Rohini Kaviratne today requested the Speaker of House to take appropriate actions pertaining to a statement made by Parliamentarian Janaka Tissa Kuttiarachchi against her.
Speaking in Parliament this morning, MP Kaviratne said the statement was not only aimed at her but against the entire female fraternity.
She said such statements should not be made in Parliament or anywhere in the society.
MP Rohini Kaviratne noted that all persons including the Speaker must oppose such statements.
She also noted that although when the statement was made by MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi, the chair was informed of the severity of the claim, the chair ignored the concern raised by the opposition.
She requested only appropriate persons be appointed to the chair as it undermines the Office of the Speaker as well.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informed the house that he will make a statement pertaining to the matter tomorrow.
