Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation Dr. Prasanna Gunasena says all persons above the age of 60 can register with the respective Grama Niladhari officer to obtain a coronavirus vaccine.
Speaking to media, he requested public support for the vaccination drive, which will be a priority during quarantine curfew.
Dr. Gunasena requested the public to provide details of elderly persons who are yet to be vaccinated, in order for health authorities to visit homes or the nearest location to administer the jab.
Dr. Gunasena stressed it is important that everyone obtains the vaccine, as it boosts immunity against the coronavirus which is pivotal for survival.
He added the virus could be controlled only by strictly following health guidelines, even after curfew is lifted.
Dr. Gunasena stated weddings, funerals, parties, hotels and restaurants serving as public places contributed to the rapid spread of the coronavirus, as the public did not social distance or wearing masks during such events.
Therefore he noted quarantine curfew was imposed in order to contain the spread of the virus.
The SPC Chairman added that citizens must adjust to the new normal, post quarantine curfew.
