Sri Lanka Naval Ship Shakthi has set sail to Sri Lanka from the port of Chennai this morning with a shipment of medical grade oxygen.
The Navy said the vessel departed the Trincomalee Harbour on the 17th of August and reached Chennai, India on Wednesday.
The Indian Naval Ship Shakti, a Fleet Tanker, too left the Visakhapatnam Port, India for Sri Lanka with a freight of medical grade oxygen last evening.
The two ships are scheduled to arrive in Colombo on Sunday and Monday respectively.
In response to a request by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne to the Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, Admiral Karambir Singh, to assist in expediting the transport process of oxygen ordered from the Indian government the Indian Navy dispatched ‘Shakti’ with a freight of oxygen.
