The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has invited all political party leaders to come forward to be part of a National Assembly and find solutions to take the country forward.

Speaking to media in Kandy, General Secretary of the SLFP Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara said the invitation is not to take up posts but to deliberate matters to solve the issues faced by the country.

He said in order to engage in politics, everyone should have a country.

MP Jayasekara said therefore everyone must come together and find solutions to the issues faced by the people first.

He said some are known to oppose every proposal tabled but noted the importance of tacking the current crisis as a united force.

MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said the time is apt to set aside all political differences and work for the betterment of the country.

He said once the pressing issues are solved within a short time period, elections can be called.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of the SLFP Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara has condemned the arrest of peaceful protesters.

MP Jayasekara said it is reported that Police is seeking information about around 3,000 persons over recent protests while some have already been apprehended.

He said they cannot approve the move to arrest peaceful protesters.

MP Jayasekara said however they cannot also accept vandalising state property, assaults and shooting under the pretext of protests.

He said country’s law and order must be upheld to ensure the safety of the citizens.

The Parliamentarian noted while police is arresting peaceful protesters, those who provoked them after a meeting at Temple Tress are still at large.

He therefore requested authorities to uphold the rights of peaceful protesters.
