China has included Sri Lanka in a pilot programme to resume its outbound group tours starting from the 6th of February.

The Chinese Embassy in Colombo said the move comes in support of the tourism industry and economic recovery of Sri Lanka.

Chinese travel agencies and online travel companies are set to resume pilot outbound group tours to a total of 20 countries.

The China Ministry of Culture and Tourism said the 20 destinations include Southeast Asian nations such as Thailand and Indonesia while South Africa, Russia, New Zealand and Argentina are also listed destinations for the pilot group tours.

The Ministry set out four major tasks, requiring relevant agencies to strengthen responsibility, implement pandemic prevention plans, regulate business operations and enhance supervision and enforcement.

The notice stressed that the pilot program to resume outbound group tours are significant for promoting the resumption of tourism development.
