COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says a Presidential Election cannot be held at this juncture due to Constitutional provisions.

General Secretary of the SJB Parliamentarian Ranjith Madduma Bandara said as per Article 31 of the country’s Constitution, the Head of State can call for a Presidential Election only after a lapse of four years.

The last Presidential Election was held in November 2019 and therefore President Ranil Wickremesinghe can call for an election only in November 2023.

MP Madduma Bandara said therefore his party is preparing to contest the impending Local Authorities Election.
