The opposition claims there is a discrepancy between the health policy to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic and the statement issued by the Secretary to the President yesterday re-calling public servants back to work as usual.
Speaking during a media briefing today, Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahuman said lives of the public are at serious risk due to the decision to recall public servants.
MP Rahuman claimed there is a serious doubt as to whether the government is attempting to spread the virus within the country through this decision.
The Parliamentarian said the government has issued a contradictory statement as it has also imposed various health regulations including a ban on weddings, conducting funerals within 24 hours and a ban on public gatherings.
He said large crowds will gather in Colombo adding regulations imposed will not be followed as transport services will carry more than the allocated number.
Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Rahuman questioned whether the government is following the policy of former President of the United States Donald Trump at time when the coronavirus is posing a great risk.
He added the public had to face the consequences of the government officials not reaching the correct decisions in a timely manner.
The Parliamentarian said the leaders of the government conduct PCR tests and Rapid Antigen tests on their staff and close contacts to ensure their own safety while putting the public at risk by their decision to re-call public servants.
