The Sri Lanka Navy has apprehended six Indian fishermen and a trawler for poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Talaimannar.
The Navy said during a special operation conducted by the North Central Naval Command, the group was taken into custody along with the trawler and their fishing gear.
They will be handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for further action.
The Sri Lanka Navy said it continues to carry out regular patrols in Sri Lankan waters to prevent illegal fishing practices by foreign fishermen, to curb its impact on the local fishing community as well as the damage it causes to the marine environment of the country.
In a similar operation conducted on the 22nd of August, the Navy arrested 10 Indian fishermen is seas off Mannar.
