COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Department of Meteorology says a slight increase in showers over the island is expected today.

The Met Department said several spells of showers will occur in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Matale districts.

It added showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night.

Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Meanwhile, the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
