Parliamentarian Rajitha Senarathne claims the country is facing a severe medicine shortage at present.

Speaking during a media briefing MP Senarathne said several patients including cancer and diabetics patients, don’t have the required medicine.

He claimed an individual who had to undergo surgery in Kalutara was asked to bring the equipment, adding operation theatres also lack necessary equipment.

The MP stated however no such situation arose during the term of the former good governance government.

MP Senarathne added if such a situation arose, prompt disciplinary measures would have been taken against the respective hospital director.

He noted at present the health sector has collapsed, adding that food and medicine is essential for survival.

The MP also claimed there will be a food shortage in the near future.
