The Government Medical Officers’ Association claims several issues have arisen in hospitals across the country since transfers issued by the Public Service Commission have not been implemented.
Speaking to media in Colombo, Member of the GMOA Dr. Prabath Sugathapala said the issue has impacted 38 percent of doctors in the country.
Dr. Sugathapala said 6,969 doctors are currently not carrying out their duties at hospitals assigned to them.
He said it has impacted the functions of not only base hospitals but some teaching and general hospitals as well.
Dr. Prabath Sugathapala has stated that there have been shortages of doctors to conduct surgeries at some hospitals and also has impacted functions of Intensive Care Units.
