Several areas in the Colombo city have been inundated due to heavy showers.
The Police emergency hotline said inundation was reported down Kynsey Road in Borella, Thumulla Junction, Kotahena, Grandpass and Armour Street.
Accordingly, traffic has been reported in these areas.
Meanwhile the Department of Meteorology said due to active south-west monsoon conditions over Sri Lanka, heavy showers above 100mm can be expected at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili said district offices and military personnel are on standby to face all disaster situations.
Pradeep Kodippili said heavy rains have been predicted for several regions in the country and therefore requested the public to be on alert.
He said 117 emergency hotline number remains open around the clock for persons to lodge complaints.
