Seven political parties that are not represented in Parliament have been summoned before the Parliament Select Committee to identify reforms of election laws and the electoral system and to recommend necessary amendments.
Secretary and Deputy Secretary General and Chief of Staff Kushani Rohanadeera said the committee will meet in Parliament today at 2pm under the Chairmanship of Leader of the House Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
The Liberal Party, Akila Ilankai Tamilar Maha Sabai, the Social Democratic Party of Tamils, the Sinhaladeepa Jathika Peramuna and the Samathuvakkadchi Party have been summoned.
The Mawbima Janatha Party and the United Peace Alliance have not confirmed their attendance.
The Parliamentary Select Committee was appointed by the Speaker last April to make recommendations to amend electoral laws and the electoral structure.
