COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The timeframe granted to file income tax returns has been extended by seven days.
Speaking in Parliament this morning, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said the deadline has been extended since several individuals faced difficulties in filing their income tax returns yesterday.
State Minister Semasinghe noted that due to the large number of requests made yesterday, a technical issue was reported in the computer system of the Inland Revenue Department.
He said the glitch prevented some from submitting their income returns.
Therefore, the State Minister said the government extended the deadline.
State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe noted that no penalty will be imposed on people who file their tax returns within the next seven days.
