The Department of Census and Statistics says Sri Lanka’s nationwide inflation in September marginally declined to 6.2 percent.
It was determined under the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) that the decline occurred against the 6.7 percent recorded in August 2021 on a year-on-year basis.
The NCPI for all items for the month of September 2021 increased to 147.5 from 147.1 in the previous month.
The Census Department said the month-on-month change was contributed by increases of index value of food items by 0.07 percent and non-food items by 0.18 percent respectively.
Year-on-Year inflation of food group had decreased from 11.1 percent in August 2021 to 10.0 percent in September while that of non-food group remained unchanged at 3.0 percent.
Contributions to the inflation rate of September 2021 from food group and non-food group are 4.59 percent and 1.60 percent respectively.
The moving average inflation for the month of September 2021 remained unchanged at 5.5 percent.
