Academic activities for students in Grade 10, 11, 12 and 13 classes will resume today under the second phase of the school reopening programme by the government.
Schools were closed for several weeks following the emergence of the third COVID-19 wave in the country.
The Ministry of Education said parents should take measures to ensure the safety of the students when sending them to school.
Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena said they will also take measures to promptly resume classes for other grades.
Meanwhile, a special circular has been issued in relation to reopening schools today. Accordingly, academic staff and non-academic staff must be summoned to resume classes for Grade 10, 11, 12 and 13 students from today.
The circular states however, expectant women, teachers who have children below the age of one, or staff members with any health issues should be summoned to duty only if it is necessary.
Permission should be obtained in writing through the Zonal Education Director pertaining to such measures.
The Education Ministry has also stated that students can attend classes in uniform or any appropriate comfortable clothing.
According to the circular issued by the Ministry, students should be allowed to attend classes wearing any suitable clothing until further notice.
