The Supreme Court will today consider all petitions filed against the Finance Bill introduced by the Minister of Finance for Parliament approval that cite inconsistencies with the Constitution.
Petitions were filed by Former JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti, General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara and trade unions leaders.
The petitions were taken up yesterday before Supreme Court judges Priyantha Jayawardene, Kumuduni Wickramasinghe and Shiran Gunaratne.
The bench informed that the petitions will be considered today, as the time period granted to file petitions concluded yesterday.
The petitions were filed citing inconsistencies with the Constitution and called for the bill to be passed by a special majority in Parliament and a public referendum.
