COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Notice has been issued on Inspector General of Police CD Wickramaratne and four other senior Police officers to appear before the Supreme Court on the 11th of November.
The Supreme Court issued notice on the group for disregarding a court order.
The Supreme Court recently ordered to pay the due salary of former Police Inspector Sugath Mendis attached to the Criminal Investigation Department who was sent on compulsory leave without pay, on charges of planting evidence to frame former DIG Vaas Gunawardena, who was convicted in an abduction and murder case.
Considering the submissions made by Counsel Viran Corea on behalf of Sugath Mendis, who had informed the court that the dues have been not paid as instructed by Supreme Court to his client, the bench consisting of justices Priyantha Jayawardena, S Thurairaja and M Samayawardhana issued notice on senior Police officers to appear in court.
Accordingly, IGP CD Wickramaratne, Sabaragamuwa Senior DIG Mahinda Gunarathna, Ratnapura DIG JS Wirasekara, SSP Embilipitiya MNS Mendis and ASP, Embilipitiya DKA Sanath Kumara have been ordered to appear in court in November 16.
