Parliamentarian SB Dissanayake says Sri Lanka can bounce back from the current economic crisis.
Speaking during a media briefing held in Colombo today, MP Dissanayake said the global economy collapsed due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said due to the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on major economies, Sri Lanka also suffered.
MP SB Dissanayake noted that the economies of the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and India contracted due to the pandemic.
He said Sri Lanka’s economic growth during the 2009 to 2015 period was the best in Asia and Colombo became one of the best-maintained cities in the world.
MP Dissanayake added that the country is not at the brink of bankruptcy and assured the economy will bounce back.
When questioned about the funds allocated to maintain Members of Parliament, MP Dissanayake said public representatives also have expenses and would require a vehicle to discharge their duties.
He said instead of criticising the politicians, the media should also observe and report on other matters as well.
