Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has expressed his dissatisfaction with the 2022 Interim Budget presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Speaking to media after the President’s budget speech MP Premadasa said there is a contradiction between UNICEF statistics and the Budget statistics pertaining to families that are in need in Sri Lanka.
MP Premadasa said the opposition cannot agree with the figure revealed in the Budget pertaining to the number of destitute individuals.
The Parliamentarian said according to the UNICEF report on Sri Lanka, a number of mothers, and children remain insecure and vulnerable.
Citing serious concerns with the Budget data, the Opposition Leader said the Budget states that 61,000 families are in distress adding that a large group in the country are helpless and destitute.
MP Premadasa claimed the earnings of the government must be spent more effectively for the welfare of the people of the country.
