The Health Promotion Bureau has reiterated that the risk of the coronavirus pandemic has not subsided although there is a significant reduction in the number of COVID-patients and deaths reported daily.
The Bureau said it is therefore crucial to follow health guidelines including wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing, and sanitising.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo this afternoon, Director of the Bureau Dr. Ranjith Batuwantudawa said 57 Intensive Care Unit beds are currently occupied in addition to other beds by COVID-19 patients.
He reiterated that COVID-preventative measures must be continued in future as well, especially when leaving homes.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health said all citizens who wish to travel overseas can obtain the Pfizer vaccine through offices of all Medical Officers of Health island-wide based on the requirement of the relevant country of visit.
He said the relevant circulars in this regard have also been issued.
Dr. Ranjith Batuwantudawa said vaccination drives are continuing across the island.
