The Government Medical Laboratory Professionals Association says the number of COVID-19 deaths and cases have increased owing to the drop in the conduct of PCR tests.
President of the Association Ravi Kumudesh said a scientific census must be carried out pertaining to the number of PCR tests and related results.
He said they believe the lack of PCR testing has had a major impact on the number of deaths, adding that failure to conduct a PCR test on patients visiting hospitals for treatment is contributing to the death toll.
Kumudesh claimed an individual who visits a hospital for pregnancy related concerns, an accident or a heart attack, must go through a complex procedure in order to undergo a PCR or Rapid Antigen test adding it is also time consuming.
He stated assumptions can be made that patients visiting hospitals for other reasons are also severely inconvenienced.
