The opposition says all Sri Lankans should stand against child labour and modern-day slavery.
Speaking to media in Kandy today, Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka said new laws should be enacted to prevent child labour.
He said a high percentage of school dropouts in the plantation areas are been employed as domestic workers in major cities such as Colombo and Kandy.
MP Ranawaka said using children as domestic workers is not limited to the residence of Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen but a number of high-profile persons and families employ children from plantation areas.
He said manpower companies are using such children to further their interests.
MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said therefore all parents should stand against such measure and ensure an environment where all children can pursue their education goals.
