President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today declared open 1,500 roads under the project to carpet 100,000km of roads across the island.
The inaugural ceremony was held this evening at the Mandaduwa Stadium in Weeraketiya under the patronage of the President under the theme ‘සෞභාග්යය මංපෙත් විප්ලවයේ දහසකුත් වැඩ නිම වන දවස’.
1,500 roads covering all districts and electorates of the country have been completed.
The roads were constructed within three months.
The President addressing the function said the revolutionary change promised through the ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ policy statement of the government will be fulfilled and urged the public including the farming community to place their trust in the government.
President Rajapaksa requested farmers to come forward without hesitation to engage in their profession.
The Head of State claimed that changing the type of fertiliser used in plantation is a major change, adding that entrepreneurs could be created through this move, while research can be conducted to ensure accuracy.
The President said Sri Lanka can be renowned as the first country in the world to resort to complete organic farming, stating that home grown food can be exported thereby creating an income generating avenue.
While claiming this goal is a challenge, the President said the government will do its utmost to achieve this target.
The President said 6.9 million people voted for him, not for his face, but for his policies claiming that they clearly stated that the country will move to a green economy.
President Rajapaksa said the policies included a shift to organic fertiliser, ensuring healthy lifestyles.
The President said experts harp on food security, claiming that food free of harmful substances is ensuring food security.
The President said ensuring this revolutionary change is a difficult task adding that he does not intend on inconveniencing farmers but said he will stand by his decision.
