The Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Impaired has requested the government to remove all taxes imposed on learning equipment of visually impaired students and to provide concessions for the equipment.
The Federation requested the government to pay special attention to the matter in its 2022 Budget.
Addressing a media briefing in Kandy yesterday, the General Secretary of the Federation Prasanna Wickramasinghe said learning equipment of visually impaired students has increased significantly due to the dollar appreciating including the rise in taxes.
He said braille equipment especially is expensive owing to the imposition of various taxes including the Value Added Tax.
