The remains of the 16-year-old girl who died while employed at MP Rishad Bathiudeen’s residence will be exhumed today to conduct a second post mortem examination.

The body is due to be exhumed at 8.30am today at the Dayagama cemetery where her remains have been laid.

A specialist team was appointed on Wednesday to conduct a post mortem examination.

The team comprises of Professor Jean Perera of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology of the Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Colombo, Head of the same Department and Senior Lecturer Dr. Sameera Anuruddha Gunawardena and Specialist Judicial Medical Officer of the Department of Forensic Medicine at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital Dr. Prabhath Senasinghe.

The Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court ordered the body to be exhumed before the specialist team and the respective Grama Niladhari officer and Public Health Inspectors, in line with health guidelines.

Court also ordered the girls remains to be directed to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital under beefed up Police security.

Officers attached to the Colombo South Crimes Investigation Division who are in Dayagama to investigate the death, have recorded statements from several persons of the Dayagama estate.

Statements have also been recorded from others who served at MP Bathiudeen’s residence and their relatives.
