International terrorism expert Prof. Rohan Gunaratna says in order to ensure a safe environment in the country, everyone must reject extremism.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Department of Government Information, Prof. Rohan Gunaratna said publicizing incorrect information and notions over the Easter Sunday attacks should be prevented.

He said Sri Lanka has five intelligence units and he has observed 350 reports regarding the Easter Sunday attacks.

Prof. Rohan Gunaratna noted such reports contain the names of terrorists including the name of Zahran Hasim.

He said religious leaders must come forward and work against extremist ideologies, since it cannot be done by the Sri Lanka Army or Police.

Prof. Rohan Gunaratna said religious leaders have a part to play and noted that all should come forward instead of claiming the Easter Sunday attacks were a political conspiracy.

He added they also have programs to rehabilitate persons with extremist views and therefore called on for a collective effort to create a safe country.
