The opposition says government employees must be summoned to work after a suitable health situation is established in the country.

The opposition condemned the decision reached by the government arbitrarily while disregarding health advice.

Speaking to NewsRadio Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake requested the government to reconsider the decision.

MP Attanayake said the government has summoned all state sector employees to work, adding that while they believe the country must reopen, necessary health facilities should be available simultaneously.

He noted that COVID-19 has spread across the country and hasn’t been contained thus far with over 2,500 cases detected daily.

Attanayake stated that while less than 10,000 PCR tests are conducted, 30% of test results return positive highlighting it as a grave situation.

The Parliamentarian said expectant women and other special groups in society must also return to work when all state sector employees are summoned to work.

Therefore, he claimed it is a dangerous decision and must be reconsidered.

MP Attanayake added such decisions must be implemented with caution until necessary ground is created to reopen the country.
