Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake will be made a member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
Taking to Twitter MP Premadasa said Ramanayake will be made a Working Committee member and a member of the SJB Parliamentary Group.
MP Premadasa said Ranjan Ramanayake will also spearhead the anti-corruption effort of the SJB.
Former Parliamentarian Ramanayake who received a conditional Presidential Pardon yesterday (26) left the Welikada Prison.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe signed the document granting Ramanayake Presidential Pardon.
The President issued the Presidential Pardon on the condition that the former MP will not make any statements or engage in actions that defame court in future.
On the 12th of January 2021, Ranjan Ramanayake was sentenced to a four-year rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court on charges of contempt of court.
He was accused of the charge over making a statement to media following a meeting at the Temple Trees on the 21st of August 2017 defaming judges and attorneys in the country.
An affidavit by Ramanayake was directed to the Supreme Court yesterday containing an apology over his statement that disrespected the Chief Justice and others in the judicial sector.
Ramanayake in the affidavit added that the statements he made are false and that he retracts the claims and will refrain from making such statements in future.
