Former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake has signed a document relating to a Presidential Pardon.
President’s Counsel Dinesh Vidanapathirana said the document was signed on the advice of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Speaking to media, one of former MP Ramanayake’s brothers Dinesh Asarappa said two documents were signed today.
He said one of the documents is in relation to his conduct while in prison and another on the statement he made regarding the judiciary.
Dinesh Asarappa said Ranjan Ramanayake did not intend to cause any damage to the reputation of the members of the judicial fraternity through his statements.
He noted that court is in recess for two weeks but said they are hopeful that the documents will be processed and Ranjan Ramanayake will be pardoned by the President in the next few days.
In 2021, Ranjan Ramanayake was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court for committing contempt of court.
Earlier this year, Ranjan Ramanayake was sentenced to a two-year rigorous imprisonment, suspended for five years over the second contempt of court charge.
