The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has questioned the government over its disregard to recommendations by several medical associations calling for a lockdown.
Responding to a statement by State Minister Channa Jayasumana that the government is awaiting recommendations to impose a lockdown, former Minister of Health MP Rajitha Senaratne questioned whether the Sri Lanka Medical Association does not comprise of doctors.
MP Senaratne said the World Health Organisation, specialists and experts have all recommended a lockdown.
MP Senaratne said there are vast discrepancies between the daily coronavirus data published and the ground situation.
He added it is clear that data published by the government through the Ministry of Health are inaccurate.
The Parliamentarian said the government recorded 3,629 cases from the Gampaha District when the actual number was 12,525.
He said the reports by the Eastern Province Director of Health Services state that 342 COVID-cases were reported from Batticaloa while the government recorded 45.
