A discussion is due to get underway today between railway trade unions and the subject Minister regarding rail fares.
The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association had announced that it strongly opposes requests made by the General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways on several occasions to increase train fares.
The Association said rail fares do not need to be increased at a time the public is burdened due to the prevailing crisis in the country.
The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association noted the loss incurred by Sri Lanka Railways can be minimized through alternative solutions.
The Association added several matters will be discussed with the subject Minister today.
