The opposition claims the quarantine regulations are not being enforced correctly at present.

Speaking to media in Kandy, Parliamentarian Velu Kumar said despite a curfew, the roads are filled with vehicles and they cannot see only ships using roads.

MP Velu Kumar said travel restrictions are imposed to save lives and therefore authorities must strictly enforce the law.

He said authorities should be mindful of the situation and fulfill their duties.

On a separate note, MP Velu Kumar said prices of sugar, rice and several other products have increased steeply in recent days.

He said the Trade Minister has claimed a kilogram of rice cannot be sold for more than Rs.100 while sugar prices are set at Rs.85.

The MP said despite such announcements the public cannot purchase rice for less than Rs.100 while the sugar prices have gone beyond Rs.200.

He also noted that the Central Bank has announced that the dollar rate is at around Rs.204 to Rs.205 but in the market it is sold at Rs.240 to Rs.250.

Parliamentarian Velu Kumar questioned whether Sri Lanka has a government to run the country.

He said the public continues to be burdened by the actions of the present administration.
