COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has decided to seek legal opinion over the request made by the Cabinet of Ministers pertaining to the proposed electricity tariff hike.
Chairman of the PUCSL Janaka Ratnayake said in a statement, that the Commission has taken a decision unanimously to expedite the tariff proposal by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) in accordance with the Sri Lanka Electricity Act No.20 of 2009.
Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said accordingly, the Commission will seek legal opinion on the implementation of the request of the Cabinet of Ministers on the interim tariff with retrospective effect.
Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera and PUCSL Janaka Ratnayake have expressed varied opinions regarding the proposed electricity tariff hike.
Minister Wijesekera is of the view that tariffs must be revised in line with the current production cost while Chairman of the PUCSL Janaka Ratnayake has repeatedly said a tariff increase is not required at present.
