Minister Gamini Lokuge says the public will respond to political parties instigating protests disregarding the coronavirus situation, at the next election.

Speaking at a media briefing, the Minister said the government respects teachers adding they are a learned group in society.

Minister Lokuge said they too should understand the situation in the country and act accordingly.

He noted the government’s prime responsibility at present is to ensure the safety of people.

The Minister added the public will respond in a timely manner to such irresponsible actions.

When questioned over chemical fertiliser, the Minister said the decision on the ban has not been reversed.

He however clarified that compost manufacturers have been allowed to obtain permits to import  nitrogen and potassium required for manufacturing purposes.
