The Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni says the public will have to adapt to the new normal for another two years owing to the coronavirus.
Addressing a media briefing yesterday Dr. Wijayamuni said, some groups do not follow basic health practices.
He said they engaged in observational tours of Fort, Pettah, First and Second Cross Street and Main Street and witnessed vendors not wearing face masks or wearing the mask on the chin.
Dr. Wijayamuni said this sets a dangerous precedence, adding that despite being vaccinated it is important to follow health guidelines.
He noted that 92% above the age of 30 have been vaccinated in Colombo of which 68% have been fully vaccinated.
Dr. Wijayamuni claimed the progress of vaccinations and the recent lockdown contributed to the drop in COVID-cases and deaths.
