State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama says public transportation services will function as per usual since health authorities have not imposed any restrictions.
Speaking to media, State Minister Amunugama said health authorities have not advised them to limit public transportation services.
He urged the public to adhere to safety guidelines when using buses and trains since the country is going through a critical phase.
State Minister Dilum Amunugama said the public has been behaving irresponsibly and the coronavirus situation had deteriorated in recent weeks.
He added the inter provincial travel restrictions were not lifted despite the relaxation of other regulations recently and public transportation services were in operation to only transport essential workers and those commuting across provinces for emergencies.
He added however checks were not carried out on people using inter provincial transportation in recent weeks.
The State Minister noted that inspections will be increased on inter provincial buses and trains from this week as advised by Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva.
