Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera says all State-Owned Enterprises must be restructured.
The Minister said political decisions, political appointments, misadministration and incompetence has led to the downfall of state institutions.
Minister Wijesekera said he believes a majority of the public sector workforce will not survive in the private sector and neither will they be recruited.
He added performance-based salaries must be introduced.
The Minister also claimed that while there are capable and efficient workers at the Ceylon Electricity Board, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Ceylon Petroleum Storages Terminals Ltd., a majority are inefficient and incompetent.
Wijesekera claimed a good 500 workforce instead of the 4,200 employees can fulfil tasks efficiently at the CPC and the CPSTL and half of the 26,000 workforce at the CEB.
He charged that trade unions thrive on inefficient members.
